I - Travel Guide

« A Unique experience of Parisian Luxury: one night at La Trémoille »

La Trémoille is one of these addresses you wish to keep secret. I already came a few years ago and I had the souvenir of an intimate, exclusive and cosmopolitan hotel, where the fashion, luxury and business energies are merging.  Nowadays, everybody talks about it and I could not resist returning.

Upon arrival, a smile welcomes me while getting out of my car. Whereas my pieces of luggage disappear in the hotel lobby, I admire the beautiful Haussmannian style façade, with its mouldings and wrought-iron balconies, so beautifully integrated to the district architecture. What an emotion to be in the heart of the Golden Triangle, with its chic restaurants and its most famous designers. 

Entering and recognizing the beautiful Art Deco stairs, I am again charmed by this cosy atmosphere so characteristic of the Parisian luxury image. What a surprise, I meet the concierges who remember that I had already stayed at the hotel. Welcomed as a regular guest, I instantly feel at home.

Worldwide personalities have been coming to this property since the 30’s and certainly had the same feeling.

Filling in my registration form, I discover the new lay-outs: a larger lobby, extended by a library in the newly renovated Louis² restaurant bar & lounge, very busy at this time of the afternoon where guests who have just finished their day cross those who have just started it.

Olivier Lordonnois, the Hotel General Manager, overlooks at all this effervescence, taking care of his hosts so that they feel comfortable, and providing each one of them a word, a smile or a friendly hand wave. He follows the tradition and he is second to none to reveal his so French and so odd best addresses and favourite places, to discover Paris like a local.

A few minutes to get changed and I am joining a friend at the bar. Macassar wood and its warm feeling,  graphic designs on a deep carpet, armchairs with square forms, silky glints of the materials: I look at each detail of the contemporary decoration of this new space fully renovated, sipping my “Louis²” cocktail and listening to the jazzy melodies of the live piano.  

The restaurant Louis², just a few steps farther, has been entirely refurbished as well. Voluminous cubic lamps and curtains in coat of mail in memory of the knight give a structure to the place and provide a real Art Deco atmosphere. The Chef Frédéric Duca prepared a new menu to satisfy all appetites. Greedies will not resist to his duck and foie gras hamburger.

I am glad to reach my room at last. There are 93 of them at the hotel, including 5 suites. All of them have been entirely renovated in 2002, each one with its own decoration, respecting the fusion of the traditional and contemporary styles, with a colour unity - brown, grey, off white - and noble materials like silk and buck. This refinement gives a sensation of protection, intimacy, well being, as in a precious cocoon.

The spirit of the 1925’s, year of the hotel creation, inspired the lay out and the decoration of the bathrooms. Elegant composition of grey and black marbles, wooden mirrors, sparkling fittings and Molton Brown amenities, put at the guests’ disposal in generous packaging.

Nothing has been forgotten to answer to each communication need thanks to last generation technologic equipments- LCD TVs, DVD and CD players, I Pod connection. Curled up on a velvet armchair, I enjoy tasting the delicious Ladurée macaroons the maid left at the turndown, admiring the ceiling mouldings and the marble chimney. 

What a peaceful moment! It is as if modernity settled itself smoothly in this ancient building.

The morning after, above the zinc roofs, the Eiffel Tower soars skyward. As my bath runs, I order at the room service a generous Continental breakfast brought by a maid a few minutes later. I could have used the hatch, this ingenuous system, exclusive to La Trémoille, where laundry or room service can be left without disturbing the guest.

But it is as nice to have the first convivial contact, so characteristic of La Trémoille. It is a delight to spoil oneself, but there is no way to forget about good habits: let’s go to the Fitness Centre.

Direct elevator access. I watch the news on TV while exercising on the cardio training and then decide to go and take benefit of the city.

One of our irreplaceable concierges proposes me to organize a yacht tour on the Seine River or a picnic on the riverside next to the most beautiful avenue of the world! A couple of hours later, here I am, cutting across the Paris streets  in a convertible 2CV, driven by a guide as nice as inexhaustible. La Trémoille does have a lot of unexpected resources…

 

II - Contemporary styling in the respect of the past                        

Famous for being one of the jewels in Paris' realm of traditional deluxe hotels, La Trémoillereopened its doors to its pretigious guests in June 2002 after 15 months of extensive transformation.

This restyling has been a true renaissance for the hotel, a rebirth that succeeds in preserving the architectural heritage of the building and the site.

The space and volumes have been completely reviewed by Richard Martinet. The hotel now offers 88 rooms and junior suites and 5 Suites. Richard Martinet, a master of deluxe hotels’ transformations has also redecorated the Four Seasons George V and the Pershing Hall in Paris.

The building facade, in 19th century style, was restored to its original splendor, with particular attention paid to the moldings and wrought iron balcony work. The roof was also refurbished so that the building now fits perfectly into in the heart of Paris’ architectural landscape.

Across the threshold, a decidedly contemporary style predominates in the atmosphere, even while some of the 93 rooms and suites still proudly display the ceiling moldings and marble fireplaces of the original structure.

Each of the 93 rooms and suites is individually air-conditioned and equipped with the latest technology: 16/9 cinema format cable TV, DVD players, high-speed Internet connections… all as discreet as possible for increasingly demanding business and leisure travelers. Cordless keyboards also provide Internet access through the TVs.

With 31 different decoration themes used in the 93 rooms and suites, room decoration is a cornucopia of creativity.

The mix of ochre, browns, maroons, greys and whites is harmonious throughout. The deluxe designer furniture and lighting fixtures blend perfectly with the Nobilis silks, imitation fur and mohair drapes.

In the bathrooms, wood and marble predominate in a mix of whites, blacks and grays. An ingenious triptych mirror decorates the wall above the marble counters, and the hand-woven basketry adds a warm note to the atmosphere. For additional comfort, the complete Molton Brown line of bath care products is available in each accomodation.

Unique in Paris : each room is equipped with the hatch, an individual butler closet next to the room door, with  a locked corridor access for room service and housekeeping staff and room access for guests. Meals and laundry can be delivered through the hatch without disturbing the guests, who can opt for classic room service or for hatch service.

Some rooms also have private balconies or bow windows that offer splendid views of Paris rooftops in the Golden Triangle quarter.

III - Le Louis²: chic and modern restaurant, bar & lounge, refined cuisine

Nestled in the heart of Paris' Golden Triangle La Tremoille presents its new restaurant, bar & lounge run by Chef Frederice Duca, an ideal place to rendez-vous for both hotel guests and those in search of an intimate, elegant and casual address in the heart of the city.

Named for Louis II, Sire de la Trémoille, grand chevalier of the Renaissance and ambassador of the hotel, the space takes on a modern-chic allure as Louis², a Parisian’s insider address designed by architects Stéphane Satorra and David Duron.

Created with the comforts of home in mind, its features include precious wood details, a warm colour palette, embroidered fabrics and luxurious thick carpets. Graphic lines, geometric patterns and a modern style recall the Thirties with a resolutely contemporary twist.

The ambiance is discreet, with a piano in the bar and cosy seats by the fireplace, sun lounge and private alcoves – a perfect place to spend a moment at any time of day or evening.

IV - The Fitness Center: relaxation and well-being        

Located on the -1st floor, The Fitness Center of La Trémoille is open to hotel guests and members from 6:00 a.m. to 11 p.m. and includes :

-          A cardio-training center

-          Sauna

-          Hydro-jet shower

-          2 private massage and beauty care rooms

The access to the sauna, hydro-jet shower and cardio training center is complimentary for hotel guests.

The Fitness Center in La Trémoille offers a complete range of high-quality fitness and personal care services for men and women, provided in one of the two beauty care rooms, by appointment.

The professional team offer Center visitors a total program of creative, high-quality care.

Skincare aesthetics, manicures and pedicures, SPA, massage, oriental hair removal, facial care, jet lag recovery… everything to help Fitness Center guests revive their sense of personal calm and well-being.

Guests also have the possibility of working with a personal coach to create and carry out individually tailored fitness programs. They could also reserve a package “Beauty Day”, including a lunch at the Louis² and beauty care using the treatment Matriskin and Zenox In, against ageing and for embellishing.

V - La Trémoille, a legendary Paris hotel since 1883…          

Courageous and loyal, he commanded the armies of Charles VIII, Louis XII and François Ist, re-established civil peace in the kingdom, prepared the union of Brittany with France and covered himself in glory during the wars in Italy. His valour was rewarded with the titles of Lieutenant General of Poitou, of Angoumois and of the Marches of Brittany, as well as governor of Burgundy and Admiral of Guyenne and Brittany.

A great leader, he was also a skilful diplomat, saving Burgundy from Swiss pillage thanks to his eloquence and the virtues of the wines of Beaune where the English ambassadors were won over a memorable feast…

Once more under the “Cavalier King”, he shone  against the Swiss during the battle of Marignan in 1515, brought peace to Normandy and fortified it before failing gloriously on the field of the battle of Pavie, where François I lost everything “save honour”.

The body of the “Perfect Knight” “Glory of his House” and “Honour of his Time” was laid to rest at Thouars, in Poitou. Paris honours his memory with the name of a street to which La Trémoilleowes its name… and some of its prestige.

A young Parisian palace with more than 100 years of history

Built in 1883 , the hotel has been entirely renovated several times. Over the years, through renovations and embellishments, it gradually became an intimateoasis of tranquility and comfort. The site's original soul is still alive today.

Originally a private residence of the Dupré family, La Trémoillewas purchased by the Forte Group in 1968 and was subsequently taken over in July 2000 by “The Scotsman Hotel Group“. La Trémoille closed its doors from February 2001 to June 2002 for extensive renovation and restyling (24 million Euros).

Mythic music and cinema personalities have always appreciated this charming hotel located a few steps away from the Champs-Elysées. 

La Trémoille was also a famous focal point for the Paris jazz scene in the 1960s, and the unforgettable double visit of Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong in 1961 was recorded for history by Paris Match.

Nowadays, other stars have their habits there and appreciate the discretion and the cosy atmosphere of this pocket-size palace full of hidden charms .
